Heavy rains are continuing in different areas of Balochistan, which has caused flooding in many cities. Due to continuous rains, Bolan, Nari Gaj, Thali, Moola, Lehri, and Rukhshan rivers have flooded, and crops have been destroyed by the floodwater. Vast tracts of land have been submerged, hundreds of houses have collapsed, numerous roads have been blocked by floods, and thousands of people have been forced to live under the sky.

The floods have washed away roads in many areas, severing the land connectivity of Balochistan with Sindh and Punjab. The connection with Sindh and Punjab is cut off due to the flood in the Bolan river, leaving thousands of vehicles and people trapped in Bolan due to the collapse of the Pinjra bridge.

Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Mashkil, Washik, Kharan, and Panjgur have been severely affected by floods, and hundreds of families have been affected. Mud houses have collapsed, and dams made of poor materials have broken in many areas. So far, five people have died due to the floods.

People in Balochistan have still not been able to recover from last year’s floods and are still waiting for aid despite the government’s claims. Thousands of families are homeless and living under the open sky even after a year. Bridges in Hub and Bolan that were swept away by the flood have not yet been built, and roads have been flooded in most areas of Balochistan.

According to public, Balochistan does not lack resources when it has to be utitlised in wars, but the flood victims have been waiting for aid for a year, and the government has limited itself to claims. The people had not come out of the impact of last year’s disaster yet, and now the recent floods have increased the difficulties of the victims even further, whereas, the government’s inconsiderate behaviour and incompetency persists.

It is very important that the Balochistan government and the National Disaster Management Authority complete the rehabilitation of the flood victims as soon as possible and formulate comprehensive flood prevention policies.
