On Friday, two incidents of suicide were reported in the Panjgur and Noshki districts of Balochistan. In Panjgoor, a man named Jasim, son of Ghaffar, ended his life for unknown reasons. Reports indicate that Jasim fainted after the suicide attempt and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Due to the absence of doctors, he was shifted to Turbat, but unfortunately, he passed away before reaching the facility.
In Noshki, a man identified as Attaullah Langove took his own life for unknown reasons. This is the second case of suicide in Balochistan in the span of one day.
Friday’s incidents mark four suicides in Balochistan in one week, with two other cases reported in the Kohlu and Quetta areas. The reasons behind these tragedies remain unclear, but experts suggest that ‘enforced disappearances’, financial problems, and family pressures are the primary contributing factors.
The issue of enforced disappearances is particularly concerning in Balochistan, with reports of security forces detaining and torturing individuals without due process. The psychological trauma and uncertainty faced by the families of those who have disappeared can have severe impacts on mental health, leading to cases of depression and suicide.
Financial problems and family pressures are also significant concerns, especially among the Baloch youth. The lack of unemployment and financial security has forced numerous young people to commit suicide.
Moreover, family pressures are another major contributing factor in the rising epidemic of suicides, particularly among Baloch women.
