A Baloch refugee was shot dead when the alleged members of Pakistani intelligence agencies opened fire on a group of refugees in Afghanistan’s Nimruz province. The Afghan Taliban forces have reportedly arrested three of the assailants under the suspicion of facilitating and carrying out the attack.

The slain refugee was identified as Jalamb Marri s/o Malik Marri who was living in Afghanistan for the past ten years. Baloch nationalists claim that the attack that killed the Baloch refugee was carried out by members of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. Nationalists have accused the Pakistani state of hunting down Baloch refugees not only in the neighbouring Afghanistan and Iran but all over the world.

The prolonged war-like circumstances of Balochistan have pushed thousands of Baloch families to migrate to Afghanistan in search of refuge. In many cases, the Pakistani security forces have allegedly ordered entire villages to promptly evacuate, leaving them no choice but to travel across the border in search of shelter. But even there, their lives have not been easier – the Baloch refugees have been killed by unknown assailants in mysterious circumstances. Baloch nationalists claim that the Pakistani intelligence agencies are the culprits.

In April 2021, four Bugti tribesmen were shot dead in the Spin Boldak region of Afghanistan. They had migrated to Afghanistan in 2006 after a deadly military operation in Dera Bugti that razed civilian settlements to the ground. Numerous such incidents have been reported where the Baloch refugees in Afghanistan were killed by unknown assailants.
