A convoy of Chinese engineers has been attacked in port city of Gwadar in Balochistan. According to local reports, at least 9 Chinese engineers have been killed in the attack.

According to police sources, the bomb blast took place in Baloch Ward near the construction site of Gwadar’s Eastbay Expressway.

The convoy was attacked on Friday evening near construction site of the road, which is part of China’s multi-billion dollar project in Pakistan, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Some sources are reporting that the attack resulted in killing 9 Chinese nationals, however, the government sources are yet to confirm these figures. Two children have also been reportedly killed in the attack, whereas, three other civilians have been injured in the attack.

According to government sources, the attack could be a suicide attack. No group has claimed responsibility of the attack at the time of filing this report.

A Baloch armed group the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed the responsibility of the attack on its official twitter account. BLA has also revealed the name and the photo of the attacker in the tweet.

“BLA carried out a self-sacrificing operation against a convoy of Chinese engineers in Gwadar, Balochistan. At least 9 Chinese engineers were killed and several were injured in the attack. This attack was carried out by BLA Majeed Brigade’s member, SirBuland Baloch alias Umar Jan,” the tweet read.
