Shutter down strikes were observed both in Quetta and Pishin on Tuesday in the wake of the murder of Allah Dad Tareen, the Secretary General of the Anjuman-e-Taajran Balochistan, a trade association.

Shops, markets and several other kinds of sales outlets were shuttered down in Quetta on Tuesday. Members of Tareen’s trade union and Pashtoonkhwa Mili Awami Party (PKMAP) called and organized the protest in the wake of Tareen’s murder. The traffic considerably reduced on the roads during and after the strike.

Allah Dad Tareen was murdered by unknown assailants in Pishin, Balochistan, on Monday. The culprits reportedly fled the scene. He was buried in his hometown of Alizai. Religious and tribal leaders and a significant number of locals attended his funeral and appealed to the relevant authorities for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

In the Quetta strike, Raheem Kakar, president of a local trader’s association, appealed for the arrest of the culprits. He resented that traders are being flagrantly murdered in broad daylight.

A shutter down strike was also observed in Pishin. Asghar Tareen, a lawmaker based in Pishin, said that they will continue their protest until the murderers have been arrested.

District Commissioner of Pishin, Qaim Khan Lashari, said that they are trying to trace the culprits. He also consoled Tareen’s family, avowing that they will do everything in their authority to arrest and bring the murderers to justice.
