Local armed gangs are active in various areas of Balochistan, are known as Death Squads. Baloch political and social circles claim that the above mentioned armed gangs are backed by the Pakistani army and intelligence agencies. Death squad groups are given free hand by the state to counter the Baloch insurgency and due to such a luxary these gangs are involved in various crimes.

Two days ago, Pakistani forces detained an old woman named Naz Bibi d/o Pir Dad, in a raid on a house in Kalat Cher area of Mashkay. She is said to be the mother of a Baloch pro-independence activist

As per the sources, Pakistani forces also tortured and abused women during a raid on the Baloch National Movement leader’s house in Kech district, on the same day.

Last month, a woman was abducted from Mashkay. The woman’s family had confirmed that members of the government-backed gang, the ‘Death Squad’ had abducted Shahbaz Khan’s daughter and taken her along.

The family expressed concern that the Death Squad would force our daughter to marry one of their members.

Nothing has been said by the government officials in connection with the aforementioned incidents, but in the past several incidents of this kind, Baloch political and social circles had held responsible the Death Squad groups.
