The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has expressed concern over the situation in the Jiwani area of Gwadar district, alleging that the region has been under extensive military restrictions for the past week.

In a statement, a BNM spokesperson claimed that the town of Jiwani and surrounding villages are facing shortages of food supplies and medicines due to ongoing military operation. The party further alleged that five individuals had been killed in custody, more than 60 people had been subjected to enforced disappearance, several houses in the Panwan area had been demolished, and hundreds of residents had been displaced.

The spokesperson argued that the strategic location of Jamri town and nearby areas has contributed to increased military activity in the region, alleging that Pakistani authorities are seeking to remove local communities from strategically significant locations.

BNM further claimed that military operations launched in response to attacks by Baloch armed groups have resulted in restrictions on civilians, including limitations on movement and access to basic services.

According to the party, the area’s geographical position has gained increasing significance due to regional geopolitical developments and competing international interests. The statement noted that the region has historically been regarded as strategically important because of its proximity to key maritime routes.

The BNM spokesperson also linked the current situation to broader security policies implemented in other parts of Balochistan, alleging that communities located along major infrastructure and economic corridors have faced military operations, arrests and displacement in recent years.

The party called on the United Nations, the European Union, neighbouring countries and international human rights organisations to monitor the situation and encourage compliance with international human rights standards.

Pakistani authorities have not publicly responded to the specific allegations made in the BNM statement.
