Authorities in Pakistan are facing renewed allegations of enforced disappearances after separate incidents were reported in Islamabad and Balochistan, while another previously missing individual was reportedly released in Panjgur.
According to reports, Qambir Baloch, a student of archaeology at Quaid-i-Azam University, was allegedly taken into custody by individuals said to be affiliated with Pakistani intelligence agencies in Islamabad on Saturday night.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9pm in the I-8 Markaz area, where Qambir had gone to deliver supplies to a relative. A statement issued by the Baloch Students Council Islamabad claimed that men in plain clothes forcibly placed him into a vehicle and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
The council further alleged that a woman accompanying him at the time was threatened and warned against informing others or posting information about the incident on social media.
In its statement, the organisation described the incident as a serious violation of human rights and criticised what it called the absence of due legal process, including the lack of an arrest warrant or formal charges.
The group also linked the case to previous incidents involving Baloch students, referring to the disappearances of Feroz Baloch, a student at Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, and Saeed Baloch of Quaid-i-Azam University. According to the statement, Feroz Baloch has allegedly been missing for four years, while Saeed Baloch has remained missing for nearly eleven months.
The council further claimed that Baloch students studying in federal educational institutions continue to face harassment, surveillance, and psychological pressure.
It also stated that when fellow students approached the I-9 Industrial Area police station to register a First Information Report (FIR) regarding Qambir Baloch’s disappearance, police declined to formally register the case and instead accepted only a written application. The statement additionally claimed that the station house officer recorded a different vehicle registration number from the one allegedly involved in the incident.
Pakistani authorities had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Kech district, reports emerged of another alleged enforced disappearance. Local sources stated that a 33-year-old man identified as Kiya, son of Mohammad Isa, from the Shey Kahen area of Turbat, was allegedly detained during a late-night raid on 23 April 2026.
According to the reports, personnel identified by residents as Frontier Corps (FC) members entered his home at approximately 3am and took him into custody before transferring him to an undisclosed location. Family members say they have received no information regarding his whereabouts since the incident.
Separately, reports from Panjgur stated that Karim, son of Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Parom, was released on 17 May after allegedly being subjected to enforced disappearance since 2 April 2026.
Human rights organisations and Baloch advocacy groups have repeatedly raised concerns over allegations of enforced disappearances in Balochistan and other parts of Pakistan. Pakistani authorities have previously denied involvement in unlawful detentions.
