A Baloch rights activist told the United Nations Human Rights Council that enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan are rising “at an alarming rate” and that there is little accountability for such violations.
Dr Shalee Baloch, chief organizer of the Baloch Women Forum (BWF), made the remarks via video link during the council’s 61st session.
“As a responsible political force, we have consistently raised our voice against these inhumane and extrajudicial practices and have repeatedly demanded accountability for those responsible, but our concerns have unfortunately been continuously ignored,” she said.
In a post later shared on X, she said she had presented the “grave and ongoing human rights situation in Balochistan” and highlighted a rise in violations “in the absence of accountability and justice”.
She said repeated calls for “transparent investigations and accountability” had gone unanswered, leaving affected families in “prolonged distress, uncertainty, and grief”.
Dr Baloch called on state authorities and international institutions, including the United Nations, to take the concerns of the Baloch people seriously and ensure the protection of their fundamental rights.
“We urge media organizations and journalists to present ground realities to the world in an impartial manner by directly engaging with local people, without interference from any third party,” she said.
She added that addressing the situation required a “collective and principled commitment”, urging all stakeholders to play a role in upholding “truth, justice and human dignity”.
