The Baloch National Movement (BNM) held a protest and photo exhibition in Geneva on Thursday calling for international intervention over the human rights situation in Balochistan.
The event took place in front of the Broken Chair as part of what the group described as a global campaign to raise the issue at international forums.
Speakers, including Mehra Baloch, Hafeezan Wadhio, Hakeem Wadhela, Dr. Lakho Lohana, Faheem Baloch, Asghar Baloch and Jamal Baloch, cited enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and military operations in Balochistan, saying such practices had persisted for decades.
They said global silence over extrajudicial killings and collective punishment was “concerning” and urged the United Nations and other human rights bodies to take what they described as immediate action.
Participants said the “voice of the Baloch people” had once again been delivered to the world from Geneva.
In a statement, the BNM said the protest was part of a broader international campaign to bring human rights issues in Balochistan to global attention, adding that activists from different countries had expressed solidarity and that the group would intensify its campaign at the international level.
