Armed men seized government buildings, blocked highways and attacked Pakistani forces across several districts of Balochistan on Wednesday, local sources said.
In the Karkh area of Khuzdar district, dozens of armed men reportedly entered the town and seized several government buildings, including a police station and an office of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Sources said the attackers blocked entry and exit routes to the town and later established checkpoints at Karkh Cross and Moola Cross, effectively shutting down the roads.
After taking control of a police checkpoint at Moola Cross, the attackers set the building on fire and detained police personnel stationed there, the sources added.
Security sources said Pakistani military personnel later attempted to move into the area, triggering an exchange of fire. There was no immediate confirmation of casualties.
Later in the day, vehicles belonging to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) were reportedly ambushed near Karkh, leaving at least seven personnel injured.
In a separate incident on Wednesday evening, armed men reportedly seized a police station and other government installations in Gullu town near Sibi.
Personnel present at the station were taken into custody and weapons were seized, local sources said.
Blockades were later established on Luni Road and Nari Gaj Road, where vehicles were stopped and searched.
Reports of armed activity also emerged from the Nodiz area of Kech district, where a large group of armed men set up a blockade on a main highway.
Eyewitnesses said vehicles were stopped and searched during the blockade.
Sources added that a convoy of Pakistani military personnel and members of an alleged state-backed armed group, locally referred to as a “death squad”, came under attack as it attempted to advance into the area.
Initial reports suggested that at least three personnel were killed and several others wounded, while an armoured vehicle was damaged.
Elsewhere in Kech district, a vehicle carrying Pakistani forces was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) along the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor route in the Saami area. Initial reports indicated the vehicle was destroyed and that there may have been casualties.
In the coastal district of Gwadar, a customs office was targeted in a grenade attack in Pasni.
Separately, armed fighters blocked a road in the Mithri area of Sibi and attacked a security checkpoint using heavy weapons. A similar attack was reported in the Sonwah area near Chattar in Naseerabad district.
Amid the reports of attacks, the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) said its urban guerrilla unit, Pervez Urban Warriors (PUW), had been carrying out operations in different parts of Balochistan.
In a statement sen to to the media, BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch said the group’s fighters had targeted government and military installations as well as checkpoints, claiming that 35 personnel had been killed.
The group said the series of attacks was ongoing and that a detailed statement would be released once the operations conclude.
