A Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer was killed and two others were injured on Monday after armed men briefly seized parts of Panjgur city in Balochistan, officials said.
The incident took place in Chitkan Bazaar, the main commercial area of Panjgur district.
A senior police official said a large group of armed men entered the area in vehicles and on motorcycles and opened fire at multiple locations. He said the attackers targeted a police station, several government-owned banks and other government offices.
“They opened heavy fire and set parts of the buildings on fire,” the official said, adding that police personnel resisted the attack.
Hospital officials said the body of one police officer and two injured personnel were brought to the district hospital. The injured were said to be in critical condition.
Local sources said the armed men remained inside parts of the city for several hours. They said further clashes broke out when Pakistani armed forces attempted to advance, with exchanges of fire reported at multiple locations.
Videos and photos circulating on social media appeared to show heavy clashes in the bazaar area.
No group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of publication.
