Six people were killed and 17 others injured after a passenger bus collided with an oncoming vehicle in Lasbela district of Balochistan on Thursday.

According to SSP Lasbela, the coach was travelling from Panjgur to Karachi when it crashed into an oncoming vehicle near Zero Point. The injured included men, women and children. They were taken to a nearby hospital by ambulances, where several remain in critical condition.

Rescue officials said traffic on the national highway was disrupted following the accident but later restored with the help of police.

Lasbela: At least six people were killed and 17 injured when a high-speed passenger bus collided with a pickup truck

Road accidents are frequent in Balochistan. In 2024, at least 20,300 accidents were reported, affecting more than 17,500 families. These incidents resulted in over 470 deaths and more than 30,000 injuries. In the first six months of 2025 alone, more than 12,000 accidents were recorded, leaving 239 people dead and over 15,600 injured.

Local residents blame poor and broken roads, a lack of safety measures and overspeeding for such tragedies, criticising the government for not addressing the issue. Reports suggest that annual casualties from road accidents in Balochistan exceed those caused by armed conflict.
