A youth who had reportedly been forcibly disappeared was found dead with severe torture marks on his body, in Kech district of Balochistan on Tuesday.

According to reports, the mutilated body of Usman Maqbool, who was allegedly forcibly disappeared from Turbat on August 24, was discovered in the Pidrak area of Kech on Tuesday morning.

A day earlier, The Balochistan Post had reported on Maqbool’s alleged enforced disappearance, along with two other similar cases in Karachi and Kech.

Usman had previously been abducted in 2019 from the same area and was released after two years in 2021. His detention and subsequent death have not been addressed by Pakistani authorities, who have yet to issue an official statement on the case.

The incident adds to a pattern of reported human rights violations in Balochistan, where international organisations have documented cases of enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings. For decades, Baloch activists and rights groups have accused the Pakistani state of systematic violence and collective punishment to suppress the Baloch nationalist movement.

Thousands of people have reportedly gone missing in Balochistan over the past two decades, with many later found dead under suspicious circumstances, often bearing signs of torture. Despite mounting criticism and calls for accountability, Pakistani institutions have largely remained silent. Investigations, when they occur, are rare and seldom result in prosecutions. Families of victims also say they face harassment and intimidation in their search for justice.
