A woman was allegedly killed by her husband near Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan’s Nasirabad district in what the local police have described as an ‘honor killing.’

According to officials, the incident took place on Monday within the jurisdiction of Mangoli Police Station, where the accused reportedly strangled his wife, whose identity has not been revealed, and fled the scene shortly after.

Following the incident, Mangoli police took custody of the body and shifted it to a local hospital for medico-legal procedures. The body was later handed over to family members, and a case has been registered. Police said a search operation is underway to trace and arrest the suspect.

Such incidents are not uncommon in Balochistan, where killings in the name of ‘honor’ have persisted for years, especially in areas bordering Sindh, such as Nasirabad. Rights groups say that many of these cases go unpunished, with suspects either fleeing arrest or being shielded by tribal customs.

Observers note that in several instances, women have been murdered due to personal disputes, and the killings are later framed as ‘honor’ crimes to evade legal consequences. In many of these cases, traditional settlements allow perpetrators to escape justice.

Non-governmental organizations and rights advocates working on gender-based violence in the Balochistan say women across Pakistan face systemic domestic and societal abuse. However, they note that a disproportionately high number of such cases are reported from Balochistan.
