A woman was shot dead by her maternal uncle in what police are treating as an alleged case of “honor killing” in Goth Ahmadabad, within the jurisdiction of Bagh Head police station.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Abdul Ghaffar Khosa, opened fire on his niece, Asiya Bibi, killing her on the spot before fleeing the scene. Upon receiving information, SHO Saadullah Jamali and a police team arrived at the location and shifted the body to a local hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police stated that initial investigations suggest the murder was committed under the pretext of “honor,” but further inquiries are ongoing. Raids are being carried out at various locations to apprehend the fugitive suspect.
This incident follows a similar killing reported just a day earlier, on July 12, in Dera Murad Jamali, where a man strangled his wife to death over allegations of extra-marital affair.
Honor-related killings remain disturbingly frequent in Balochistan, often committed with impunity. Rights organizations note that perpetrators in such cases frequently evade justice, protected by tribal customs or insufficient legal action. In many instances, women are killed over personal disputes, and the crime is later framed as a matter of honor to escape legal consequences.
Civil society groups and NGOs working on women’s rights in Balochistan have consistently raised concerns over the alarming rate of violence against women in Balochistan. While gender-based violence is a widespread issue across the region, activists say the situation is particularly severe in the Balochistan, where many incidents go unreported or unresolved.
