Two Baloch men who were reportedly subjected to enforced disappearance last month have been found dead in Balochistan’s Kalat district, with residents and human rights groups alleging they were killed in a staged encounter by Pakistani security forces.
The bodies were discovered on Tuesday morning in the Sheikhri area of Kalat. Levies officials confirmed that both men had been shot dead.
They identified the deceased as Samiullah, son of Muhammad Hanif, and Bismillah, son of Ghulam Sarwar—both residents of Pirhingabad in Mustung district.
According to local sources, the two young men were detained by Pakistani Frontier Corps personnel on 29 May while travelling from Mustung towards Manguchar, also in Kalat district. Following their detention, families reported having no information about their whereabouts.
Their bodies were recovered nearly a week later.
Their enforced disappearance had also been previously reported by The Balochistan Post.
Earlier on Tuesday, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), claimed that Pakistani forces had killed two Baloch militants in an operation in Kalat. However, the statement did not name the deceased or provide any evidence linking them to an armed group.
Levies officials said the bodies have been moved to the Rural Health Centre (RHC) in Manguchar, where legal proceedings are underway.
Human rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan, where families of the missing often accuse security forces of abducting and later killing individuals in custody under the guise of counterinsurgency operations.
At the time of publication, Pakistani authorities had not issued any official statement regarding the allegations.
