The Balochistan High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a petition challenging the detention of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other activists under Maintenance of Public Order Act, commonly known as the 3MPO.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Ejaz Ahmed Swati and Justice Muhammad Aamir Nawaz Rana heard the petition, which was filed by Dr. Mahrang’s sister against her detention and that of other BYC members.

Representing Dr. Mahrang in court were senior lawyers Kamran Murtaza, Rahib Buledi, Khalid Kubdani, Ahmad Kurd, and others. The counsels presented their arguments before the court, which then directed them to submit an affidavit under Article 5 of the Constitution.

Following a brief adjournment, the petitioner’s lawyers submitted the required affidavit. Advocate General Adnan Basharat raised objections to the contents of the statement, prompting further legal arguments from both sides.

After hearing the arguments, the court reserved its judgment. Speaking to media outside the courtroom, Kamran Murtaza said the arguments had concluded and expressed optimism regarding the outcome. “In my view, the detention order was unjustified. Hopefully, the court will announce the decision in a day or two,” he said, noting that the petition had been filed on behalf of Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s sister.
