Pakistani security forces have carried out large-scale search operations in several Baloch-majority areas of Karachi, with reports of violence and arrests.
The operation was conducted by Sindh Rangers, police, and Navy personnel on Wednesday. Raids took place in Maripur, Younusabad, and nearby neighbourhoods.
Local residents say security personnel forcibly entered homes, violating privacy and assaulting residents. Women, children, and elderly people were reportedly beaten during the raids.
“There was no regard for the sanctity of our homes,” one resident said. “They entered without warning and beat our women and children with batons.”
Residents also claimed that homes belonging to local fishermen were demolished using bulldozers. They also accused the authorities of attempting to forcibly occupy their lands.
“They are destroying our homes and taking over our lands,” a resident said. “Even during the holy month of Ramadan, they show no mercy.”
Local sources said several people were injured during the operation. There were also reports of arrests, but the exact number of those detained remains unclear.
The operation sparked anger among residents, who vowed to resist what they called “illegal and inhumane” actions by the Pakistani authorities.
“We will not stay silent,” one community elder said. “We will continue to raise our voices. The government should resolve our issues, not attack us.”
There has been no official statement from Sindh Police or Rangers regarding the operation or the allegations of violence and forced evictions.
