On Saturday afternoon, a reported suicide attack targeted a military convoy of Pakistani forces in the Turbat area of district Kech, Balochistan, resulting in multiple casualties. While the exact number of those killed remains unconfirmed, initial reports suggest several soldiers have lost their lives in the attack.

According to Turbat police, the bus was en route to the FC headquarters and was completely destroyed in the explosion.

The Turbat police administration stated that the bus remained engulfed in flames for several hours following the explosion, raising concerns about an increase in casualties. However, the police have not yet provided any clear information regarding the number of fatalities.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an armed group advocating for Balochistan’s independence, claimed responsibility for the attack through its official channel, Hakkal.

BLA’s official statement

Jeeyand Baloch, the spokesperson for the group stated: “The Majeed Brigade, Fidayee unit of the Baloch Liberation Army, today carried out a Fidayee attack on a convoy of the occupying Pakistani army in Turbat, eliminating several military personnel. Our organisation accepts responsibility for this attack. A detailed statement will be released to the media soon.”

The Majeed Brigade is known to be the most lethal unit of the BLA, specialising in “Fidayee” (self-sacrificing) high-profile attacks. In the past year alone, it conducted six major attacks, claiming the lives of hundreds of Pakistan Army personnel, according to BLA sources.

Furthermore, no detailed statement has been issued by official sources regarding the attack, nor has the FC confirmed any information about casualties.

The situation in Turbat remains tense, and a heavy deployment of security forces has been made in the area since the incident.

Saturday’s attack in Turbat underscores the persistent security challenges in Balochistan despite Pakistan’s significant military presence in the region.

The attack also highlights the BLA’s continued operational capabilities, raising concerns about the broader implications for regional stability and foreign investments, particularly those linked to CPEC. Further details on the attack and its casualties are awaited as investigations continue.
