In Gwadar, victims of alleged misconduct by the Pakistan Coast Guards have staged a protest at the Kaldan Cross near the Gubad border, blocking the Makran Coastal Highway. The demonstration has severely disrupted trade worth billions of rupees at the Pakistan-Iran border.
According to the reports, traffic flow on the highway has been affected for the past four days, resulting in losses of millions of rupees in taxes to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Hundreds of residents who rely on cross-border travel through Iran have also been stranded.
The protesters claim that illegal actions by the Coast Guards have adversely impacted both businesses and daily life in the area. Despite four days of protests, government authorities have failed to take meaningful action, instead projecting a false impression that the situation is under control.
The demonstrators demand an immediate halt to the Coast Guards’ harassment and seizure of local vehicles, as well as the restoration of local trade and transit with Iran. They have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met.
Over 100 hours have passed since the Makran Coastal Highway was closed, yet no constructive response has been received from government officials. Protesters warn that if their grievances are not addressed, the scale and intensity of the demonstrations could escalate further.
