Hameeda Baloch, former vice president of the Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) Uthal Zone and a well-known activist, died in Karachi on Monday after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Originally from Teertej in Awaran, Hameeda was a prominent figure in Balochistan’s social and political circles, known for her dedication to student organization and advocacy within the BSAC. She had been receiving cancer treatment in Karachi.

BSAC spokesperson described her as a “brave political activist” who remained committed to her ideals, even through illness. “She often expressed her determination to continue her work for the Baloch cause once she recovered,” the spokesperson said.

The BSAC highlighted what it called inadequate healthcare in Balochistan, stating that “the absence of advanced facilities means treating serious illnesses is almost impossible.” The organization said that cancer rates are rising in the region but that many, like Hameeda, lack access to necessary treatment.

BSAC added that her dedication to Balochistan and her work with Baloch youth would continue to inspire future generations.

Meanwhile, In a separate statement on X, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) expressed sorrow at her death. “The Baloch Yakjehti Committee extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Hameeda Baloch, who lost her life fighting cancer in a Karachi hospital,” the statement read.

“She was a proactive voice against the Baloch genocide, participating in historic protests such as the ‘March Against Baloch Genocide’ from Panjgur to Quetta. She actively participated in BYC activities and struggled to raise awareness among the masses against State violence and Human Rights abuses.”

The BYC extended condolences to her family, saying her loss leaves a deep void among those fighting for Baloch rights.
