The Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed that 11 members of a so-called ‘death squad’ were killed during ongoing clashes in the Barkhan region of Balochistan.
In a statement released on Monday, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said the group’s fighters have been engaged in an operation against the ‘death squad’ for two days. He said the operation began at 4 PM on Sunday, with fighting continuing at significant intensity.
“Eleven enemy personnel have been killed, and more than a dozen injured,” Major Gwahram Baloch said, adding that further details would be shared with the media soon.
Pakistani Forces Launch Operation
Meanwhile, Pakistani forces have launched a clearance operation in the Union Council of Uchri, Barkhan, following clashes between the armed group and a government-supported militia, locally referred to as a ‘death squad.’
Officials said the operation began on Monday afternoon and is ongoing, with the Frontier Corps (FC) 86 Wing, Levies, and the government-backed militia encircling the area.
Clashes reportedly erupted on Sunday evening in the border area between Barkhan and Dera Bugti after armed individuals allegedly destroyed a mobile tower belonging to a private company.
Khan Mohammad Masoori Bugti, a cousin of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, said members of the Bugti ‘Peace Force’ pursued the attackers, which led to an exchange of fire.
Two militia members were killed, and five others were injured on Sunday evening. Heavy gunfire continued late into the night, with further casualties reported as fighting continued into Monday.
