Heavy rains and flash floods have led to widespread devastation across Balochistan, claiming three lives and causing extensive damage to infrastructure.
The torrential downpours have submerged low-lying areas, collapsed houses, and disrupted key road and rail networks. Several regions have been cut off, with communication systems severely impacted.
Chaman and Qila Abdullah districts are among the worst affected. In Zamanabad, floodwaters entered homes, while strong winds damaged solar panels.
In Jaffarabad, electric poles were knocked down, and the railway line connecting Quetta, Chaman, and Nushki was washed away, halting train services.
In Mastung, several houses were damaged by floodwaters, and in Mastung’s Kardgap, a woman was swept away and later found dead.
Heavy rains also submerged the Bolan National Highway in Mach, causing significant traffic jams and trapping several vehicles.
In Khuzdar district, two shepherds, Imran Dinarzai and Muhammad Ismail Dinarzai Mengal, were struck and killed by lightning in the Kodiyank area. The lightning also killed eleven goats.
In Nushki, the main bridge connecting the city was swept away, severing road access. A vehicle was carried off by floodwaters, but fortunately, no lives were lost. Floods also destroyed the Pakistan-Iran railway line in the Keshingi area.
The National Highway Authority has reported that floodwaters have severed Balochistan’s road connections with other parts of Pakistan. Key routes like the Quetta-Taftan-Sibi highway remain closed.
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days, urging residents to avoid traveling on affected roads.
