The Directorate General Mines and Minerals Balochistan has issued licenses to Mari Mining Company (Private) Limited (MMC) for mineral exploration in Chaghi, the most resourceful district of Balochistan
According to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday, Mari Mining Company (Pvt) Limited (MMC), a subsidiary of Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), said it had been issued two exploration licenses, EL-322 and EL-323, and allotted 501.03 square kilometers and 512.76 square kilometers respectively for mineral exploration in Chaghi.
The notice further stated that the approval of the new licenses is in line with Mari’s strategy to expand its portfolio of mining projects and reflects Pakistan’s commitment to contribute to the development of the mineral mining sector.
It is worth mentioning that despite being a resource-rich district, Chaghi is home to global mega projects such as Saindak and Reko Diq, Chaghi has a variety of precious minerals and rare metals, such as gold, silver, copper, iron, and marble. Despite all this, this district and the whole of Balochistan are plagued with underdevelopment and lack basic facilities of life.
Notably, On 28 May 1998, the atomic bomb was also tested in the mountains of Rasko, located in Chaghi.
