A ‘major’ rank officer of the Pakistan Army was killed and four others, including the comandant of Frontier Crops (FC) Zhob and ‘captain’ and ‘colonel’ rank officers, were injured in an armed attack in the Sartoi of Sambaza area in Zhob district on Tuesday.
The slain army officer has been identified as Major Babar Khan Niazi, 33, a resident of district Mianwali, and the injured include Commandant Zhob Colonel Abdul Rehman and Captain Shahid. The injured have been shifted to military hospital for treatment and captain Shahid’s condition is said to be critical.
A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the attack and said that three “terrorists” were also killed in an exchange of fire during an intelligence-based operation in Zhob. The ISPR, however, did not reveal the identities of the slain militants.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack, while the ISPR stated that a clean-up operation was underway in the area.
