The Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has released a statement claiming that Pakistani security forces are constructing barriers on agricultural lands in Gwadar, which is causing distress to the local farmers who depend on these lands for their livelihood. The BSO interprets these actions as evidence of Balochistan being under ‘occupation.’
The BSO further explained that a project labeled the ‘Safe City Project’ was launched in Gwadar in recent years, which they believe is designed to hasten the exploitation of the area. Initially, the project involved encircling Gwadar with barricades, but resistance from Baloch political groups led to its suspension.
However, the BSO now reports that the state has resumed erecting barricades around a particular section of Gwadar, citing ‘security’ reasons. This section includes the agricultural fields vital for the sustenance of local farmers.
Additionally, the BSO alleges that a member of the provincial assembly, whom they refer to as Gwadar’s ‘puppet representative,’ was present at the meeting where the decision to erect barricades was made and is actively supporting this ‘egregious’ action. The BSO warns government officials to cease this project, or they will initiate a mobilization against it.
