Hidayat Ur Rehman Baloch, the Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Gwadar and leader of the Haq Do Tehreek, released a video on the social media platform ‘X’, previously known as Twitter. In the footage, he stands before a coast guard checkpoint, accusing the guards of confiscating oil and petroleum from impoverished Baloch traders to sell for their own profit, thereby exacerbating the traders’ poverty.
Elected in this year’s elections as the representative of Gwadar in the Balochistan Assembly, Rehman is at the forefront of Haq Do Tehreek, a movement championing social reforms. The movement’s agenda includes securing the rights of Baloch fishermen, putting an end to enforced disappearances, and advocating for the demilitarization of Balochistan.
In his video, Rehman asserts his position as MPA to argue that the Coast Guards are an anti-Baloch force. He claims that the anti-Baloch hostility is ingrained in them. He points out a guard, saying that he is standing there as if he has made a significant accomplishment.
Rehman further says that if a Baloch trader’s merchandise is seized, they should block the traffic in protest. He also alleges that while narcotics like heroin and cocaine are smuggled daily, the coast guards turn a blind eye, choosing instead to target the goods of the struggling Baloch traders.
