Balochistan’s Home Minister, Zia Langove, expressed concern over the persistent issue of ‘militancy’ in the region, saying that it has not been effectively addressed for over 25 years. He said there is an urgent need for a decisive offensive to combat this challenge, as peace and security are essential for a thriving society.
Langove, who assumed office on April 20th as the provincial minister for Home and Tribal Affairs and Prisons, assured that the government is committed to safeguarding the ‘well-being of all Balochistan residents.’ He said that the Government of Balochistan confronts unique and unprecedented challenges, unlike those encountered by previous administrations or other regions.
The minister said that the importance of establishing checkpoints by security forces and police to eradicate the ‘menace of terrorism’ cannot be stressed enough. He said the Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti is committed to providing the necessary resources to bolster the police and security forces in their ‘anti-terrorism’ efforts. Langove said the forces play a critical role in fostering stability and peace in Balochistan.
Inspector General of Police Abdul Khaliq Sheikh said that the police has a proactive stance in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of the populace. He stressed the police’s dual responsibility of protecting the public and being accountable to them.
Sheikh said that the conflict has taken a heavy toll on the police, with over a thousand police officers having been killed in the ‘pursuit of peace’. He highlighted the support from the provincial government, the chief minister, and the home minister, who are collectively working towards a new vision of peace in Balochistan. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing ‘safe city’ initiatives in major districts aimed at securing the safety of all residents.
