In the coastal city of Balochistan’s Gwadar, a relief camp set up by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) at Javed Complex was forcefully evicted in the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, masked men arrived at the site around 3 a.m. in a Vigo vehicle and proceeded to dismantle the camp established to aid victims of recent flooding in the region.

The eviction of the camp follows earlier reports of attempts by authorities to sabotage the relief efforts of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) following devastating rains that submerged Gwadar city and its surrounding areas.

The BYC had previously accused officials, including Gwadar’s Tehsildar Shayek Munir, SHO Mohsin, and DSP Imam Yaqoob, of threatening volunteers and undermining the relief initiatives.

Following the eviction, BYC members encountered further challenges. “Today, as BYC members attempted to rent new tents from various shopkeepers, they were met with reluctance due to warnings purportedly issued by the Gwadar police against providing tents to the BYC. We have promptly filed a complaint regarding this incident, and BYC is determined to take strict action in response,” the BYC stated on ‘X’.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee has been at the forefront of establishing relief camps across Gwadar and other areas to assist those affected by the recent floods. However, the alleged actions of governmental authorities to impede these humanitarian efforts have raised concerns about the commitment to assisting those impacted by floods in Balochistan.
