In light of Pakistan’s upcoming general election, Balochistan’s health department has announced a state of emergency in all hospitals to effectively manage any potential emergencies. This announcement was made by Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Qambarani, the Special Secretary of Health, following a high-level meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Qambarani, involved key health officials, including Director General Health Dr. Farooq Hoth and heads of major hospitals. They discussed measures to ensure the health sector’s preparedness during the election period.
All hospitals in the region, both government and private, are directed to be on full alert. This directive includes maintaining a 24/7 presence of medical staff across various specialties such as General Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Orthopedics, and Medicine. Hospitals are also instructed to reserve a specified number of beds for emergency cases – at least five in private and twenty-five in government hospitals.
Qambrani announced that the Trauma Center would serve as the focal point for handling any emergencies that may arise. He emphasized the responsibility of all Medical Superintendents (MSs) and District Health Officers (DHOs) to ensure round-the-clock preparedness in their respective districts.
The Regional Blood Center Quetta has been tasked with ensuring an adequate supply of blood, and hospital pharmacies are ordered to maintain a constant availability of essential medicines and disposables.
MERC 1122, led by the Managing Director of MERC, is designated as the focal point for patient referrals and emergency response coordination. All ambulances are to be kept ready for immediate deployment.
