In a significant development, Baloch activists Dr. MahRang Baloch and Sammi Deen Baloch met with United Nations officials in Pakistan on Monday to discuss the human rights situation in Balochistan.

The delegation included high-profile officials from the UN mission to Pakistan, such as Ms. Mio Sato, former Chief of the UN Mission and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Pakistan; Mr. Shah Nasir Khan, the UN’s Resident Coordinator Officer; and Dr. Mariam Shaikh, a communications advisor at the UN.

During the meeting, the activists presented a detailed account of the human rights violations in Balochistan, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and the suppression of peaceful demonstrators advocating for Baloch rights. They also highlighted threats faced by participants in protests and sit-ins.

The United Nations officials acknowledged the concerns raised by Dr. MahRang and Sammi Deen Baloch. They assured the activists that the issues would be communicated to the relevant departments within the UN for appropriate action.

This meeting is part of a broader initiative by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) to engage international bodies in addressing the human rights crisis in Balochistan. The BYC is advocating for the UN to dispatch a fact-finding mission to the region for an independent investigation into the reported violations.
