Chiragh Baloch, a digital content creator from Pasni in Balochistan, was among the 35 individuals selected by NASA to cover the launch of its “Psyche” mission. Baloch also featured in an official promotional video for the mission.

The “Psyche” mission aims to study the metal-rich asteroid, also named Psyche, situated in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It was successfully launched on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from the Kennedy Space Center on October 13, 2023. This asteroid is significant to researchers as it may offer insights into the tumultuous history of collisions and accretion that formed terrestrial planets.

Baloch’s journey from Pasni to NASA is a remarkable tale of dedication and ambition. He completed his primary education in Pasni, later attending Inter College Turbat. From 2011 to 2015, he pursued higher education in Russia, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics. He also secured a Master’s degree from the same institution. Currently, Baloch is in the U.S., working on his Ph.D. in Computer Sciences. Besides his academic endeavors, he is a content director for the renowned social media platform, Snapchat.

Reflecting on his participation in the Psyche mission with NASA, Baloch elaborated, “NASA periodically invites applications from digital creators worldwide for their rocket launches. Those chosen have the privilege to record at the agency’s headquarters.” He added, “I applied in 2022 without success, but 2023 saw my dream come true with the Psyche mission.”

For Baloch, this is more than just professional acclaim; it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. “Witnessing a rocket launch up close and being part of such a historic event has always been my dream,” he said. His success stands as a beacon of inspiration for many in Balochistan, highlighting the region’s vast potential.
