China reportedly arrested a Chinese national accused of spying for the US intelligence agency on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the China official, a Chinese citizen who worked for the Military Industrial Group in China, was recruited by a CIA agent in Italy.

The officials identified the accused with his surname as 52-years-old Zeng who was allegedly sent to Italy for higher studies by the China’s Military Industrial Group and befriended a CIA agent there.

The Chinese Ministry of State Security said Zeng had signed an espionage agreement with the United States and also trained before returning to China.

The Chinese national was allegedly promised huge sums of money and emigration to the United States along with his family in exchange for espionage. “After coming to China, Zeng passed on several sensitive confidential information to the United States,” China Central Television said in a report.

However, United States officials have not yet commented on the allegations.
