The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) said that the increasing number of young Baloch individuals committing suicide is a matter of grave concern.
The Baloch Women Forum, an organization advocating for women’s rights in Balochistan has expressed deep concerns over the recent elevation of suicide rate among Baloch youths. The group released a statement saying that this distressing trend is deeply alarming and requires immediate attention.
Balochistan, with its vast geographical expanse, often witnesses unreported cases due to limited media coverage, BWF said. “Unfortunately, this has resulted in two recent suicide cases that went unnoticed until now”, it said.
Mentioning those cases the BWF said that on Sunday, a 17-year-old girl named Nida, daughter of Ramzan from Geshkor Awaran, tragically ended her life, and on Monday, another woman named Khanzadi, wife of Abdul Wali from Dera Bugti, allegedly took her own life. The rising cases of suicide demand urgent action, the group said.
The Baloch Women Forum said that the domestic and gender-based violence, as well as the state’s oppression of Baloch people, must come to an end. “These factors contribute to severe mental distress, leading individuals to contemplate ending their lives. It is crucial to prioritize mental health awareness in Balochistan, considering the critical situation at hand,” the statement read.
