The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a “pro-independence” group, has claimed responsibility for two separate attacks targeting the Pakistani forces in Nushki and Zamuran.
In an media statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the attacks targeted an important member of the state backed “death squad” alongside an outpost of the Pakistani security forces.
The attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of two personnel, including an individual identified as Babo Hameed Mandai alias Sami, who according to the BLA statement was a “key member” of a death squad allegedly formed by Pakistani forces and intelligence agencies.
In the statement, BLA spokesperson accused Mandai of being directly involved in the enforced disappearances of Baloch youth and carrying out raids on homes in Nushki. According to Jeeyand Baloch, “Babo Hameed has been directly involved in the enforced disappearances of Baloch youth and raids on homes in and around the city of Nushki, alongside the occupying army.”
Babo Hameed, according to the BLA statement, had surrendered to the Pakistani army in 2019 after deceiving Baloch freedom fighters into being arrested. He was accused of leading a death squad funded by the army and secret agencies across various areas of Nushki and Kharan.
In another attack in Zamuran, Jeeyand Baloch claimed that the BLA fighters targeted a military post in the Abdoi area. “The fighters of the BLA targeted a post of the Pakistani occupying forces with modern weapons,” he said. This attack reportedly resulted in the death of a soldier named Waheed ullah and left at least two others injured.
The statement also mentioned that a helicopter from the Pakistani army was observed the next morning, arriving to retrieve the body of the killed and the injured personnel.
