The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claimed in a press release that the Pakistani intelligence agencies have successfully apprehended Baloch insurgent leader Gulzar Imam. The ISPR said Imam’s arrest is a major blow to all the Baloch insurgent groups operating in Balochistan.
According to the ISPR statement, Gulzar Imam alias Shambay, is the founder of Baloch National Army, an insurgent group that was formed from the amalgamation of two other groups, the Baloch Republican Army and the United Baloch Army. ISPR said that the group is behind multiple attacks on Pakistani security forces in different areas of Balochistan, like Noshki and Panjgur.
The ISPR said Gulzar Imam also remained as deputy of Brahamdagh Bugti in the BRA till 2018. He has been instrumental in the formation of Baloch Raj Aajoi Sangar, an umbrella organization of several Baloch insurgent groups, and remained as its Operational Head.
ISPR said that his visits to Afghanistan and India are also on record, and his links with “hostile intelligence agencies” are being investigated. The ISPR said hostile agencies had tried to exploit him to work against Pakistan and its national interests.
