The central vice president of the Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal), Malik Abdul Wali Kakar would be the new governor of Balochistan.
According to BNP Chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, “notification about the appointment of Governor would be issued after the arrival of Prime Minister from China”.
As per reports, The coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has agreed to appoint BNP Mengal’s senior vice president, Malik Wali Kakar to be the new governor of Balochistan. The developments came after a long discussion between the coalition parties of the federal government for the vacant post of the governorship of Balochistan since April 13, 2022. Since the former governor Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha resigned from his position, the speaker Balochistan Assembly, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali has been performing his duties as the acting Governor of Balochistan.
It is to be noted that BNP-M is currently an important ally to both the Provincial and Federal governments of Balochistan and Islamabad. Though in Balochistan, assembly members of the BNP are sitting on the opposition benches, their support for the Qudoos Bezenjo-led government of BAP is not veiled any more.
In this regard, the BNP chief, Sardar Akthar Mengal called an important meeting of party leaders in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss the new development with the senior party leaders. Sources within BNP have confirmed the reports about the appointment of the new governor of Balochistan of their senior vice president Malik Wali Kakar.
