A few hours after the suicide attack by Shari Baloch on Chinese nationals in Karachi University on Tuesday, Haibtan Bashir Baloch, her husband, took to Twitter to commend his wife for the “selfless act.” The husband said that he is proud of his wife’s sacrifice and that she will continue to remain an important part of his life.
Shari Baloch, a “fidayee” of Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) Majeed Brigade squad of suicide attackers, carried out a “self-sacrificing” attack on Chinese nationals outside the Confucius Institute in Karachi University on Tuesday. CCTV footage of the explosion shows the attacker, standing outside the main gate of the Confucius Institute, waiting for the arrival of the Chinese nationals. As the van arrives, she blows herself near the van. Three Chinese nationals were among the four killed in the explosion who were identified as Confucius Institute Director Huang Guiping, Ding Mupeng and Chen Sai. The van’s driver, Khalid was also among the dead. Members of the security detail of the Chinese professors were also severely injured.
The news of the attack spread like wildfire on social media. The CCTV footage of the attack was posted and reposted tens of thousands of times. Soon after the attack, the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack and identified the attacker as Shari Baloch alias Bramsh, a fidayee of BLA’s Majeed Brigade.
Shari’s husband, Haibtan Bashir Baloch, also took to Twitter to pay tribute to her wife. In a tweet featuring a picture of him, his wife and their two children, he said: “Shari Jan your selfless act has left me speechless but I am also beaming with pride today. Mahroch and Meer Hassan will grow into very proud humans thinking what a great woman their mother was. You will continue to remain an important part of our lives.”
Shari Baloch was a teacher in her native town Kech. She did her B.Ed in 2014 and M.Ed in 2018. She did her masters in Zoology from the University of Balochistan and currently studying for her Mphil in Education from the Allama Iqbal Open University Turbat campus.
