An arts academy has been set up in Turbat to honour the slain artist and journalist Shaheena Shaheen Baloch who was killed by her husband in the name of honor in September 2020.

According to the details, Quetta-based radio artist Labrain Baloch inaugurated the first office of the Shaheena Shaheen Academy of Arts in Turbat. The family members of Shaheena Baloch were also in attendance in the opening ceremony – her sisters Masooma Baloch and Marvi Farooq and her mother participated in the inauguration. Masooma Baloch is also chairing the art academy. Artists Rabia Baloch, Fareed Gwadari and several others were also present at the occasion.

Labrain Baloch said that the Shaheena Shaheen termed the project a “milestone” and said that the art academy will play a crucial role in recognizing and honing the artistic faculties of the locals. She said that the academy will train both male and female students and sharpen their latent abilities. Labrain Baloch also recognized the support and cooperation that the district administration had played in the establishment of the art academy.
