According to Rashid Hussain’s family, he was arrested from the United Arab Emirates on December 26, 2018 and handed over to Pakistan after 6 months of detention in UAE.

A special anti-terrorism court of Pakistan in a trial of the ‘attack on the Chinese Consulate’ in Karachi in 2018, has issued arrest warrant against Rashid Hussain, who was said to be abducted by UAE on December 26, 2018 and handed over to Pakistan on June 22, 2019.

The trial took place in special court at the Anti-Terrorism Complex in Karachi Central Jail. The court declared Rashid Hussain a fugitive including a few others, named Ali Dad Buledi, Sharif Baloch, Sameer and Harbayar.

During the trial, the police claimed that Ahmad Hasnain, Nadir Khan, Ali Ahmed, Abdul Latif and Aslam are under arrest in suspicion of the Chinese Consulate attack.

According to the court statement, Abdul Latif including two other arrestees have also confessed being involved in the attack.

On the other hand, the family of the fugitive declared Rashid Hussain has been staging demonstrations and holding a hunger strike camp in Quetta and Karachi for last one and half years. Protests have also been held by activists in different European countries in front of UAE embassies for safe recovery of Rashid Hussain.

While talking to The Balochistan Post, the missing Rashid Hussain’s sister Farida Baloch termed the Anti-Terrorism Court’s decision as a denial of justice, saying that such decisions will halt peoples’ hope and expectations from Pakistan’s judicial system.

“We completely reject the Anti-Terrorism Court’s decision regarding my brother Rashid Hussain and will continue the struggle for his recovery”, Farida Baloch said.

“Human rights activist Rashid Hussain Baloch was forcibly disappeared from the United Arab Emirates and illegally shifted to Pakistan. Rashid Hussain is not on a run but under custody of Pakistani intelligence agencies”. These views were expressed by Mama Qadeer Baloch, Vice Chairman of ‘Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), an organization active against the enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
