A Pashtun leader was arrested and taken away by forces from Quetta district of Balochistan on Friday.
According to details received by The Balochistan Post, a leader of Pashtunkha Mili Awami Party, Kabeer Afgan was arrested by security forces from his house located on Sirki road, Quetta, capital city of Balochistan.
“Forces ransacked the house and Kabeer’s laptop and books during the raid and took him away,” family alleged.
“It is pertinent to mention that after abduction of Baloch people in the region for approximately two decades, now Pashtuns are facing the crack down by Pakistani forces,” local sources said.
Earlier this week efforts to stop celebrations of the Pashtun cultural day in the University of Balochistan Quetta and Islamic University Islamabad, had arisen protests by Pashtun and other students.
‘Security forces used force to sabotage the Pashtun cultural day in University of Balochistan Quetta, which resulted in injuring more than 20 students. And forces have arrested two injured students as well,’ sources said.
Balochistan is plagued by the enforced disappearances of Baloch youth and activists. However, recently instances of ‘women and children abductions’ have also been reported.
International campaign groups including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International accuse Pakistani security forces as the perpetrators of ‘illegal abductions in Balochistan’.
