An alliance, comprised of six political parties, has unanimously nominated Jam Kamal to become the new chief minister (CM) in the provincial assembly of Balochistan.

Jam Kamal is the president of newly-formed Balochistan Awami Party, which had won the most seats in Balochistan’s provincial assembly.

Different political parties with winning candidates have formed an alliance in Balochistan, which had a meeting yesterday. The Balochistan Awami Party, the Awami National Party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP), Balochistan National Party (BNP-Awami) and Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) were in attendance.

The alliance unanimously nominated Jam Kamal as CM, whereas, former CM Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was nominated for the slot of a speaker of Balochistan Assembly.

After the meeting, Jam Kamal held a press conference where he said that the BAP and its allied parties had obtained a simple majority of 33 members in the house of 51.

He said that the alliance leaders would hold more meetings in the coming days to finalize a formula for distribution of ministries.

BAP, BNP and MMA appeared as major parties after July 2018 general elections in Balochistan.

Many political parties and candidates had leveled accusations of mass-rigging during general elections, whereas, Baloch nationalist parties had boycotted the elections.
