At least three hundred people have been killed and countless others injured and displaced due to the floods that occurred after heavy rains in the northern provinces of Afghanistan.
According to Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban government’s central spokesman, hundreds of people were killed and a large number injured in the devastating floods. The World Food Programme, which operates across Afghanistan, estimated in a post on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, that more than 300 people had been killed by the floods. On the other hand, the British broadcasting organization says that more than two thousand houses and several mosques have been devastated in the floods.
Ministry spokesman Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani told the news agency that the Ministry of Interior has sent rescue teams and helicopters to the area but the operation could not be successful due to the lack of night vision lights in the helicopters. The Afghan government says it is making efforts to help people in flood-affected areas.
