A woman and her young daughter were allegedly detained and taken to an undisclosed location by Pakistani forces accompanied by a state-backed armed group described by local sources as a “death squad” in Kech district, Balochistan.
According to local sources, Pakistani forces and armed men entered a house in the Sami area of Balochi Bazaar, Kech, late at night and took a woman and her daughter into custody.
The woman was identified as Hani, daughter of Latif, while the child was identified as Ayesha, daughter of Ali Jan.
Family members and local residents said the two were taken away during the raid and that no information regarding their whereabouts has been made available since.
Their families have expressed concern for their safety and have called for their immediate release and the disclosure of their whereabouts.
The incident comes amid continuing reports of raids, detentions and enforced disappearances in different parts of Balochistan. Families, human rights organisations and political groups have repeatedly alleged that individuals are detained by Pakistani forces and allied armed groups and subsequently held incommunicado. Pakistani authorities, in the past, have denied involvement in many such cases.
