A sit-in protest in Islamabad led by families of alleged victims of enforced disappearance and members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) entered its 22nd consecutive day on Wednesday. The demonstrators, many of whom have travelled from Balochistan, include women, children, and elderly individuals. Despite challenging weather conditions and limited facilities, they have continued their protest in a peaceful manner.

According to protestors, authorities have not allowed them to set up a formal protest camp, and the road leading to the National Press Club remains closed. They also report being subjected to continuous monitoring and restrictions, which they say have added to the pressure on the group.

Sammi Deen Baloch, daughter of Dr Deen Mohammad Baloch, who has been missing since 2009, and a prominent figure in the BYC, joined the sit-in on Wednesday. Her visit was welcomed by demonstrators and seen by participants as a source of encouragement.

Protesters have stated that their demands include the immediate release of all individuals affiliated with the BYC, as well as an end to the broader practice of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. They have called on human rights organisations, civil society groups, and the media to support their appeal and raise awareness of the issue.

In remarks at the protest, Sammi Deen Baloch criticised what she described as a lack of engagement from authorities. She said the protest has not received a formal response from state officials, despite being peaceful and held in the federal capital.

She also urged members of civil society, rights activists, students, and political figures to show solidarity with the protest, stating that public support could play a role in drawing attention to the issue.

“Our silence strengthens oppression, and our participation gives courage to the oppressed. It is time to stop being silent spectators and become part of this collective resistance,” she said.

At the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued by government representatives in response to the ongoing protest. Organisers say they intend to continue their demonstration until their concerns are addressed.
