Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the leader of the ongoing protest against the “Baloch Genocide” in Islamabad, challenged the role of the parliament and the judiciary in the human rights violations and mass killings committed by the Pakistani military in Balochistan. She posted her questions on ‘X’, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Dr. Baloch wrote: “Some people claim that only the military is responsible for violating human rights in Pakistan, and the rest of the state should not be blamed. We ask them: When the military commits mass murder and human rights violations, where do the parliament, the judiciary, and other institutions of the country stand?”

She also asked: “What has been the role of the judiciary in the genocide that has been unfolding in Balochistan for the past 75 years?”

Dr. Baloch further said that they have been protesting against enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings for the past month. They have been in Islamabad for the past ten days, including elderly people, women, and children. And despite all that, when they entered Islamabad, they were beaten up, arrested, and harassed.

She asked: “Did the parliament and the judiciary do anything to stop that?”

She concluded: “When the judiciary, the parliament, and all the other institutions are silent supporters of genocide and tyranny, then we have every right to argue that the entire state is involved in our genocide.”
