Balochistan is grappling with severe cold weather conditions, with temperatures in some regions dropping below freezing. The Meteorological Department forecasts dry weather for most parts of Balochistan, though the northern districts are bracing for more severe cold.

The temperature in Balochistan’s capital Quetta, has plummeted to minus 2 degrees Celsius, while Kalat has experienced even colder conditions at minus 3 degrees Celsius. In other regions, such as Sibi, Nokundi, Turbat, and the coastal areas of Jiwani and Gwadar, temperatures have been reported to range from 7 to 14 degrees Celsius.

The cold weather is being further compounded by a gas shortage. In Quetta, neighborhoods like Jinnah Town and Sariab are experiencing nightly disruptions in gas supply, impacting heating and daily household activities. The frequent gas load shedding has sparked protests in various parts of the region.

Residents are voicing concerns over the recurring gas shortages during the winter months. Despite yearly assurances, the problems of reduced gas pressure and load shedding persist, exacerbating the challenges faced by the populace during this cold season.

As of now, there has been no official response or action from the Balochistan government or the Sui Gas Company to address the ongoing gas supply crisis amidst the harsh winter conditions.
