In the Makran region of Balochistan, an outbreak of conjunctivitis – locally known as “Cham Door” – is fast becoming an epidemic, with hundreds reportedly affected.

The eye infection, which can lead to eye irritation and potentially serious vision problems, is swiftly spreading across different areas within the region, encompassing the districts of Panjgur, Turbat, and Gwadar.

Residents of region suggest that the rapid spread of the virus can be traced back to a recent religious gathering in Gwadar, with many attendees reportedly carrying the virus upon their return.

The surge in conjunctivitis cases has brought attention to the existing inadequacies in the region’s government hospitals. Public circles have raised alarms over the glaring lack of facilities to handle this escalating health crisis, urging immediate action to prevent further spread and to provide adequate medical attention to those affected.
