Twelve days passed but the two miners trapped in a coal mine in the Dukki area of Balochistan have not been rescued.
According to reports, the coal mine rapidly filled with rainwater twelve days ago, which resulted in trapping at least two miners inside. The rescue teams have not been able to rescue the trapped miners yet.
The two miners have been identified as Abdul Baqi, son of Sadiq and Sharaf son of Gulan Kakar, residents of Qila Saifullah district.
As soon as the rainwater entered the mine, other miners saved their lives by running outside while the two coal miners were trapped since they were extracting coal from very deep, sources said.
According to data from the Pakistan Workers Federation, there are more than 3,500 coal mines in Balochistan, where 150,000 to 200,000 miners work.
Pir Muhammad Kakar, General Secretary of the Pakistan Workers Federation said the cause for the increasing deaths of miners is due to the more than 100-year-old and outdated mining system in Balochistan.
Many international organizations working for worker rights have strongly condemned Pakistan for the complete absence of an effective occupational health and safety policy in the country, which has resulted in the deaths of a large number of workers in industries, particularly in coal mines.
